Project Description:

In 2002 BICON Zambia Limited in association with GITEC GmbH of Germany were award this contract under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. This assignment was aimed at providing improved water supply sources to these 3 districts. The project was implemented under the guidance of the following principles:

  • An integrated approach to water supply, sanitation, and health education to achieve sustainable and effective use of water and sanitation facilities through methods that are replicable;
  • The promotion of community participation and low-cost technologies;
  • The introduction of financial self-sustainability;
  • The adoption of demand-responsive approach; and
  • Involvement of private-public partnership for operation and maintenance

The Project also involves the construction of about 350 boreholes, and about 30 wells, rehabilitation of 20 wells and equipping of borehole with hand pumps.
